Losing an Accent by Dr G
Losing an Accent is a journey into humanity's connections and an examination of how we are both united and divided as people.
Belonging poems highlight dilemmas of being Black in Britain, in feeling at home in, yet disconnected from, the UK. Lenses of Humanity poems take readers on an odyssey of corporate, religious, social and educational dilemmas that affect everyone. Refugees poem illustrate the issues people experience after fleeing danger and how they are perceived. Cultural Identities poems scan the racialised landscape to highlight issues influencing cultural identities in Britain and America. Codes of Iniquity are poetic reflections examining the wickedness that exists in the world through varied lenses. (Self) Love and Relationships poems are a combination of reflections on and advice for those who want love, from others and for their own self.
Combining native Brooklynite steel with a historian's sageness, Dr G addresses the complexities of being Black in Britain, American and of African descent. Through this debut book, he introduces readers to his poetry, aiming to inspire social and political undertsanding, justice and equality.
