Library sort out in Lewisham

Updated: Sep 14, 2025

The final library reorganisation of the academic year 2025 took place at a large primary school in Lewisham. This school has a great library space and shelving.

The school identified that their library and classrooms contained a significant number of books, and decided to implement book banding to provide children with appropriate texts to read once secure on phonics.

Books were reviewed, software records updated, labelled, and then placed in the most appropriate book section.

·       Book-banded books ranging from turquoise to black levels, covering various schemes and real books, offering pupils a variety of styles and texts within each level.

·       Fiction titles intended for reading for pleasure were organised by interest age to help pupils in locating books.

·       Themed books covering all subjects.

All books received child-friendly labels. A review was conducted to identify gaps, and recommendations were made regarding areas where additional resources may be required to inform future budget planning.

Next, after finishing some books that have been found in a cupboard (every school has a cupboard like this!), we will be working with the school on a book order. Narnia Libraries has worked with Sharon Gray Books https://www.sharongraybooks.co.uk/, who supported the

school in acquiring books through Scholastic Book Fair Rewards, and will supply new books as part of the process.

The gallery shows a before photo of the library and 4 after the work photos.
